A syracuse holiday tradition!
All of the fanciful favorites are back in Syracuse City Ballet's annual production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. Whether you're a child, or just young at heart Syracuse City Ballet's journey into Clara's winter wonderland is a new holiday tradition not to be missed!
Katherine Rathbun has a very keen understanding of her audience, and her unique gift for rich and lively story-telling. "Even at best, the Nutcracker is often difficult for families with young children," says Katherine Rathbun. "Kids get restless. A Children's Nutcracker (performed on select dates only) is choreographed specifically with that in mind. It's the same wonderful story and beautiful music that we all love, but tightened up so that there's always something exciting to watch."
The Syracuse Nutcracker is a testament to the close community spirit of the area; in May 2013 a fire tore through the staging area, and saw many of the costumes and scenery damaged due to smoke and water damage. But with the help of a Fire Recovery Benefit, the costumes and props were replaced quickly and that year's Nutcracker went ahead as planned! Go, Syracuse!
